The Australian Chapter of the SCC was formed in 2020, around four years after medicinal cannabis was legalized in the region. Many of the pioneers of the medicinal cannabis scene had come together under the umbrella of the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association (AMCA) to try and overcome barriers to patient access. They recognized that education and research are key to building acceptance and support of medicinal cannabis, particularly amongst health professionals. The Australian Chapter was formed to support this ambition.
